The main objective of this project was to make a composite film to improve properties of conducting polymers, such as polypyrrole, used as actuators. Different methods were investigated like chemical polymerisation or polymerization in situ to reach the same characteristics than film electropolymerized. At each time some interesting properties were found but never a compromise between conductivity and actuation properties.

The project based on cooperation between University of Auckland and Polytech Nantes (France) in an internship (3.5 month) of Florent Airaud at Polymer electronic research Center (PERC, University Auckland). The work mainly conducted by Florent Airaud with help from Dr. Rudolf Kiefer. Based from thr outcome new composite between PPy and PVDF been found with antioxidant properties of such material as well as possible application in food packaging.
