Kaks põhilist kiiritusnähtust anorgaanilistes laia keelutsooniga materjalides – mitut liiki kasulik luminestsents ning nanomõõtmeliste struktuuridefektide tekke kahjulikud protsessid – on käesoleva uurimuse aines. See projekt on keskendunud kristallide, keraamika, kilede jm kujul sünteesitud (peamiselt Tartus) binaarsete ja kompleksoksiidide ning mõnede fluoriidide nii baas- kui rakendusuuringutele (kuvarid, valgustus, kiired stsintillaatorid meditsiini, turve ja tööstuse tarbeks, kiirituskindlad materjalid tuuma- ja termotuumaenergeetika jaoks). Põhieesmärkideks on seletada footonite või kiirete osakestega kiiritamisel tekkivate ergastuste kulgu (alates 30 fs); kiiritusnähtuste mehhanisme, eriti suure ergastustiheduse ning uute nanomaterjalide ja kilede korral; luminestsentsi ja mittepõrkelise defektitekke efektiivsuse suurendamise/vähendamise väljavaateid. Meie käsutuses on kogu vajalik infrastruktuur ja kõrgeltkvalifitseeritud personal.
Two main radiation phenomena in inorganic wide-gap materials – beneficial luminescence of various types and harmful processes of the creation of nanosize structural defects – are the subject of the present study. The project is focused on both, basic research and applications (plasma display panels, lighting, fast scintillators for medical, security and industrial uses, radiation-resistant materials for nuclear and thermonuclear energetics) of binary and complex oxides and some fluorides synthesized (mainly in Tartu) in form of crystals, ceramics, films, etc. The main goals are to elucidate: the evolution (from 30 fs) of various excitations formed at the irradiation by photons or fast particles; mechanisms of radiation phenomena, especially at high excitation density and in novel nanomaterials and films; prospects of increasing/decreasing the efficiency of luminescence and non-impact defect creation. At our disposal are all necessary infrastructure and highly qualified staff.
